With an air of holiday charm combined with an olden-day elegance, the Upper and Lower parts of Paphos town together make an attractive resort filled with influences from across the centuries. The upper part contains the main shopping area, characterised by classical-style buildings, and the lower part (known as Kato Paphos) is home to the harbour, fish tavernas, souvenir shops and beautiful hotels, all with important archaeological sites around them. With a plethora of churches, museums, activity parks and beaches, Paphos really does offer something for everyone.
On the outskirts of the town is Paphos International Airport, which rapidly expanded after the 1974 invasion to become the island's second major airport. Whilst still not as busy as Larnaca, it handles many of the charter flights arriving on the island and becomes a convenient destination for anyone heading for destinations in Western Cyprus.
The latest attraction to be built in Paphos is the luxury Aphrodite Hills resort, situated to the East of the airport. With a 7-star hotel, shopping plaza, golf club, health club and spa, this new project retains the look of ancient Greece. According to legend, Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, chose Paphos as her place of worship having risen from the waves at "Petra Tou Romiou". Many thousands of romantic couples visit the site each year as the perfect place to "pop the question"!! NEAREST EUROPCAR BRANCH: |
